Hey guys, iv just got back from Victoria Train station to get a feel of the scale and detail of the space and building. Sorry to throw a spanner in the works but I'm worried that the building is very large with an awful lot of detail and very little to give a wow factor or features to look authentically placed within game play.

As Mick pointed out that they wanted quality rather than quantity, I'm worried that the space is too big to get all of the detail in within such a short space of time.

What are your thoughts on this?

Ill do some research of Manchester buildings now to see if there are any that would look great even with the decay elements added from a visual point of view but also with interesting features that could be Incorporated into the game play to get an idea of whats available.

  1. I also had this concern which is why I put forward the idea of using the Printworks and buildings further that way, I think the Printworks would look fantastic decayed; so would the Shude Hill bus station which is very simple and has areas a player can find cover behind e.g. the description boards etc, we can block paths with stationary trams, road works and what have you so there is no problem creating realistic limitations to the area.

However, if we were to concentrate solely on Victoria Station we might be able to pull it off but I seriously doubt we would have time to produce anything further.

  3. I took a look at some images of the station and although I still feel that it is a large thing to reproduce, I think it is possible in the time we have.

This image of the concourse could be like an ambush point in a game where enemies would step out from the sides and attack from various directions, signposts and kiosks provide good cover and it is the kind of thing you would see in a game.

If we are economical about how we create the building with repeatable parts, then it should be a lot more simple than it appears, the decay aspect would give it the extra detail.

  4. I agree with James, I can help out with the modelling of certain parts of the building so hopefully that can increase our productivity and as said, a lot of repeating models can be used.

I went round and took a staggering amount of photos and I'm trying to figure out how best to put them all up on here...
